The Angel Nyack exists for 5 important reasons . . .

  • 1 To preserve & modernize a beautiful, historic church building for generations to come
  • 2 To foster the arts in a flexible, state-of-the art venue
  • 3 To host extraordinary special events, especially weddings and other joyful celebrations
  • 4 To support Soup Angels in serving meals to our neighbors in need – with dignity and kindness
  • 5 To be an active part of Nyack’s diverse cultural and spiritual scene

Preservation & Modernization

Residents of Dutch Reformed faith began holding services in Nyack around 1830, building their first church on this site in 1836. This was replaced by the present Romanesque revival church in 1901, which features a landmark bell tower, a Peragallo pipe organ, and three gigantic luminous stained glass windows. We will enhance all of this with modern lighting and HVAC.

One Building, Many Uses

Three Configurations

Once the pews are removed, the Sanctuary space can be used in lots of ways. Here it’s set up for a performance for 300, as a “theater in the round,” and as a celebration for 175 guests + a dance floor.

The Pitkin Room (in blue) will be renovated by January and ready for friends and family to gather. For up to 100 guests with a cocktail party setup.

Three Lounges in the back (pink area) are ideal for wedding parties or performers to get ready - or as a babysitting zone for kids during an event.

We also have below market rate Office Spaces for creatives to rent on a monthly basis.

Professional & Community Arts

Nyack has a rich history in the arts. The Angel Nyack will give local individuals, groups and organizations a state-of-the-art space and support to offer creative programming for the community. This includes our friends at ArtsRock and Music for Life.

Weddings & Celebrations

This multi-purpose community space will be upgraded to make it an excellent choice for weddings and other celebrations. The impact of each “I Do” is a significant and well-documented economic driver. Weddings are magnets for drawing out-of-towners to come and enjoy Nyack’s hotels, restaurants, and shops.

Community Support & Spiritual Lift

Nyack is a place where poverty and wealth live side by side. By supporting The Angel Nyack, you will help ensure that this building remains the home of Soup Angels, which has been providing home-cooked meals to our neighbors in need – no questions asked – for over 20 years here.

Though the current congregation of the First Reformed Church was not able to keep pace with the needs of an old building, they continue to use the space on Sundays and holidays and serve as volunteers for Soup Angels. They have also invested a significant portion of their proceeds from the sale of the building (and tons of their time) to help the Angel Nyack update and modernize the space.
